Left of Boom Newsletter: Why the Name Matters

Proactive strategies to detect, disrupt, and prevent workplace violence.

Our team brings decades of federal law enforcement, behavioral threat assessment and management, and crisis management experience. Left of Boom draws on that expertise to help organizations recognize warning signs, disrupt pathways to violence, and prevent harm before it occurs.

The term Left of Boom reflects our core mission, operating in the critical moments before an incident unfolds. It has been part of the law enforcement lexicon for decades.

Our team worked Left of Boom on major federal cases such as the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, the September 11 attacks, and the Boston Marathon bombing.

In those investigations, the “boom” was the attack itself, the point of impact. Everything to the left of that moment was the timeline leading up to it, the behaviors, planning, and warning signs that could have been identified and disrupted. Work done right of boom focuses on gathering evidence and understanding what happened after the fact. Our focus remains firmly on the left, where early intervention can change the outcome entirely.

Through this lens, we share lessons and strategies that help organizations stay ahead of risk, strengthen prevention efforts, and build safer workplaces.
